Found in The State 09 May 1917: Bertie O. Richardson, traveling salesman for the E. M. DuPre Produce company, Columbia, was instantly killed yesterday noon when the automobile in which he was riding was struck by Southern passenger train No. 30, at Ashleigh, near Blackville in Barnwell county. The body was brought to Columbia last night. Mr. Richardson came to Columbia from Stoutbridge, Ga., six years ago. Later he was married to Miss Margaret Thackam, who with one little girl eight months old, survives him. The family resides at 2203 Park street. Funeral services will be held there at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning. The funeral will be held with Masonic honors. Since January 1, Mr. Richardson had been traveling out of Columbia for the DuPre house. Prior to that time he had been associated with the DuPre automobile agency in different capacities. When first coming to Columbia he was an employee of Suizberger & Sons.
Per the Richland County Marriage License Inquiry website: Bertie Richardson and Margaret Thackam were issued a marriage license on 07/17/1912, lic # 000623.
After his death, per the same site: Margaret Richardson and Croft Sanders were issued a marriage license on 03/14/1919, lic #008913.
Note: he is buried with his in-laws in the Thackam family plot.
