Bertha M. Knause, 95, of McAlisterville, died at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at the Lewistown Hospital.

Born Jan. 26, 1917, in West Perry Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late David and Cora (Stuck) Maneval. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Jamison, June 14, 1973, and her second husband, Ray C. Knause, preceded her in death Feb. 6, 1997.

Surviving are: her son, Robert Sierer and wife, Vera, of McAlisterville; stepsons, Donald Knause, of Pennsylvania, and Terry Knause and wife, Linda, of South Carolina; a step son in law, Dale Yarger, of Mifflinburg; and she leaves behind many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and step-great-great- grandchildren.

One step-daughter, Lucille Yarger, preceded her in death, and one brother Ryan Maneval, also preceded her in death, making her the last of her generation.Her only child Bobby was born out of wedlock prior to her 1st marriage.He has his fathers last name.

In earlier life she was a vendor at the Sunbury Market, and later was employed by Lyons Fashions of McAlisterville, until retiring in 1974.

Mrs. Knause was a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church, Cocolamus.

Bertha enjoyed traveling and making braided rugs. However, with her gifts as a seamstress, her passions were quilting and sewing.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, from the St. John's United Methodist Church, Cocolamus, with the Rev. Candace Arnold and the Rev. Charles T. Tressler officiating. Interment followed in the Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.

Viewing was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday, at the church.
