Violet Rose Abono
Violet R. Abono passed away October 30, 2002 at Diamond Ridge Healthcare Center in Pittsburg at the age of 90. Born March 23, 1912, she was a native and lifelong resident of Pittsburg. She was owner/operator of Abono's Grocery Store for fifty five years. The store was started by her late parents, Frank and Antonina Abono in the early 1900s. Violet was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, Young Ladies Institute, and Church of the Good Shepherd in Pittsburg. She enjoyed bingo.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mamie Abono and Rosalie Gaiera. She is survived by her niece Annette Grillo, nephew Dr. Vito Gaiera, several great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday November 4, 2002 from 2:00-8:00pm with a Vigil at 7:00pm at the Pittsburg Funeral Chapel. Mass will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at 10:00am at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Pittsburg. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Antioch.
