Margaret McElveen
Gaffney, S.C. - Margaret MacDowell McElveen, 84, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Brooks Howell Home in Asheville, N.C. after struggling with Alzheimers over the last 5 years.

Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of the late Dr. R. H. McElveen and the late Charles L. Swygert and the daughter of the late John William MacDowell and Rainsford Dubose MacDowell.

She was a homemaker and mother and also worked at Limestone College and at the Hartline Company. Margaret was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation until moving to be closer to her children in the Asheville area.

Mrs. McElveen is survived by her daughter Gail Bellows and husband Jon and granddaughter Camilla of Asheville, N.C. and her son Tim Swygert and wife Sally and grandchildren William, Carly and Abby of Clarksville, Md.; a brother Marion St. Pierre MacDowell of Conover, N.C. and sister-in-law Dorothy Kelly Woods of Hendersonville, N.C.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles (Mac) MacNeely Swygert.

Margaret was passionate about her family, church, cooking, beach music dancing and her beloved dog Harvey.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Church with Rev. Jenny Gettys officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

The family encourages friends and family to join them for a reception at the Church Parish Hall immediately following the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 308 College Drive, Gaffney, S.C. 29340 or to Brother Wolfe Rescue Foundation, P.O. Box 8195, Asheville, N.C. 28814.

The family will be at their respective homes.
