J. Robert Bales, 86, Flora, Indiana, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 1995 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana, following a four year illness.
He was born December 15, 1908 in Dana, the son of Ed and Margaret Reardon Bales. On April 17, 1971, he was married in Indianapolis to Mary Elizabeth Mann who survives.
Bales attended Cutler Presbyterian Church. He was a member of F & A M Lodge 320 in Dana for more than 50 years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. He was a 1926 graduate of Dana High School.
Bales retired from Indianapolis Power & Light Company in 1973, where he had been an easement engineer for 21 years.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mary M. Young, San Diego, California and Sharon Shedron, Rossville, Indiana; two sons: Charles M. Bordner, Cutler, Indiana and Carol R. Bordner, Bringhurst, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. A son, three grandchildren and two brothers preceded him in death.
Services were held Saturday in Baker Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin Nollette officiating. Burial was in Ball Hill Cemetery, Cutler, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Cutler Presbyterian Church.
