A native of the Stateline community in Cherokee County, SC; husband of Lunette Stacy Scruggs; and son of the late Robert Berryman Scruggs and Nora Etta Harris Scruggs.
A member of Southside Baptist Church; a school teacher, a peach orchardist, and a service manager with Duke Power Company.
A graduate of Dorman Bell Private School and Berea College.
Also survived by a daughter, Margaretta Scruggs Abernathy (1923–2005); sisters, Ezia Scruggs Blanton (1894–1991) and Ruth Scruggs McBrayer (1912–2010); five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Predeceased also by a son, Solon Douglas Scruggs (1921–1985); and brothers, James Gettys Scruggs (1904–1990) and Miles Douglas Scruggs (1908–1985).
Visitation was held from 2:00 - 2:45 pm, Wednesday, February 20, 1991, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel.
Graveside services followed at 3:00 pm at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by Dr. Benjamin Littlejohn and Dr. W. H. Clapp.
