Gary served in the United States Navy in the Korean War, he served on the Aircraft Carrier Ship USS Lake Champlain, he received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation service Medal (Europe), he was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Forieign Wars, American Legion, and Honor Color Guard.
Gary moved to Beaver, Utah, prior to coming to Beaver, he resided in Lancaster, California and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He is survived by his two daughters; Tammy (Scott) Seifert of Lancaster, California; Jodie Hares of Beaver, Utah; his brother Jim Hares of Littlerock, California; sister Verna (Herman) Wood of Merritt Island, Florida; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchildren. Gary is preceded in death by his daughter Christy Hares, ex-wife Deloris Hauck Hares, his parents Sidney Hares and Gladys Hares Pendley, brother Harold Hares.
