In 1869, they moved to Karlstad city parish, at the northern end of Sweden's largest lake Vänern, where he was first listed as a mate, then he became steamboat captain. In 1876, the family moved to Karlstad country parish (Tingvalla), where they lived until Olof's death in 1894.
