Mrs. Johnie T. Groover, age 89, passed away on August 13, 2012. Johnie grew up in Buford, Ga., and was a resident of Atlanta. She was a graduate of Buford High School, Class of 1941. She worked for Westinghouse as a bookkeeper as well as for the Internal Revenue Service. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed working with her daylilies. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tucker.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, W. Clifford Groover; her parents, Homer Tuggle and Lily Waters Tuggle; and four sisters, Hester Puckett, Lemon Brogdon, Pearl Shadburn and Jessie Stewart.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Olive Ann Groover and Etta Anne Groover of Stilson; several nieces and nephews, Art and Jewell Rich of Vienna, Va., Roger Shadburn of Thomson, Ga., Anne and Jerry Barnes of Ringgold, Ga., Johnny Brogdon of Buford, Ga., Joan and Jay Scott of Atlanta; Clare and Joe Maddry of Birmingham; Clark and Lynn Groover, Will and Beth Groover, Susan Boddiford, Cliff and Elaine Groover, all of Stilson, Ga., and John Groover of Atlanta; and several greatnieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

The graveside service and burial will be Friday at 2 p.m. in Old Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Reland Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
