Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes Austintown Chapel for Ernest E. Gorgei, 79, of Youngstown who passed away Sunday afternoon at his home. Ernie was born January 23, 1933 in Canfield, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Halas) Gorgei. He was a lifelong area resident and had worked as a salesman with Stackhouse Oldsmobile. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. Ernie was formerly active with the American Legion Post #565, he was also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, loved horse racing, traveling, and helping others. He was an avid NASCAR fan and passed away while watching the race. His wife, the former Ruth Black whom he married July 26, 1952, passed away November 15, 2004. He leaves three daughters, Ruth Anne Hall of Westerville, OH, Patty (Jim) Slivanya of Boardman, and Jackie (David) Malis of Carrollton, TX, two sisters, Dolores (Joe) Bancs and Sally (Gary) Jenkins both of Clearwater, FL, seven grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeffery Hall, Bryan and Brandon Schwartz, and Andrew, Joel, and Sophie Malis, as well as two great grandchildren, Emma and Tyler, and his dear friends, George and Mary Jane Senedak. Besides his parents and wife, Ernie was preceded in death by six brothers, Steve, Joseph, Louie, Arthur, Bill, Alfred Gorgei, and two sisters, Helen Campy and Bettie Moore.
