BRASWELL, Nathaniel R. - Age 86, of Sutherlin, Oregon passed away September 13, 1997 in a Sutherlin Care Home. He was born February 12, 1911 in Clovis, New Mexico, one of 16 children, eight boys and eight girls, and had been a resident of Sutherlin since 1984. He married Cassie A. Verdell on May 17, 1931 in San Beneta, Texas. Nathaniel was a volunteer at the Roseburg Veterans Administration Hospital doing many things including being a golf instructor to the veterans for rehabilitation. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Roseburg, Oregon. Survivors include his wife, Cassie Braswell of Sutherlin, Oregon, children Ross Braswell of Englewood, Colorado, Johnny Braswell and Doris Huggins, both of Roseburg, Oregon, one sister, Edna Birdwell of Texas, his care giver, Judy Younger of Sutherlin, seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. 14 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Graveside services will be held Monday, September 15, 1997 at 4:30 p.m. in Coles Valley Cemetery near Umpqua, Oregon, with Pastor Allen Sjogren officiating. CHAPEL OF THE FIRS in Sutherlin are in charge of arrangements.
