Born in Prentiss County, Mississippi, he was a son of the late William L. and Mattie Stevens Barnes. Mr. Barnes was retired from the United States Air Force having served in World War II and Korea. After he retired from the military he was employed with Lockheed Missile & Space Company. Mr. Barnes was Past Post Commander of VFW Post 10058 and he attended Travelers Rest United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two children, Sandra Lee Moore and husband Samuel of Charleston, S.C., and John T. Barnes and wife Patricia of Travelers Rest; a brother, William Luther Barnes, Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Lucille Dees of Corinth, Miss.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at The Howze Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow in Coleman Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Travelers Rest U.M.C., 19 South Main St., Travelers Rest, SC 29690.
The family will be at the home.
