The angels came and took our mother, Norma Geraldine Copenhaver, home Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001.
She was born in Florida on Sept. 16, 1918. She graduated from Dayton, Ohio, High School and soon after married Ned Grafton Copenhaver in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton, Ohio.
She raised five children in a house on top of a mountain with 65 acres that we called Mountain Meadow Farm in the heart of the Poconos in Shawnee on the Delaware, Pa. "We would have to walk a mile and a half to ride the bus to and from school each day." She made most of the children's clothes and we all worked hard in the garden and cutting wood for the stove and fireplace. "We loved it when it snowed so we could make snow ice cream and pop popcorn. She gave us a lot of love, the love of reading, music, and dancing. Our rock gardens will always be with us."
Late in life she became a carpenters helper at the Naval Weapons Station. She had many talents in which she made many things that are priceless to the family. "She was the best Mother, friend, and healer." She resided at the Riverside Convalescent Center for the past nine years where she continued to give of herself to others and in return she was loved by all.
"She will always be in our hearts"
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Ned G. Copenhaver, and a son, John Lawrence Copenhaver. She is survived by a daughter, Jean Geraldine Hornsby and her children, Debbie Ann, Jennifer Jean Eule, Robert Salisbury, Steven Hornsby, and Lisa Hornsby; daughter, Naida Sue Cukurs, and her children, Julia Ann, Mark Allen, Brian Wade, and Andrew Marcus; daughter, Carol Joyce Copenhaver and her children, Scott Wayne Burch, Dawn Marie Burch, Dwain Robin Burch; daughter, Teresa Janis Kratz and her children, Josette, William, and Patty Jean; John's children, Jewel, Jodie, and Johnny; and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
