An obituary appeared in the Raleigh Register, Beckley, WV on Tuesday, June 01, 1948 on Page 12, Col. 7 and said the following:
Dr. Abshire to be buried Today.
Funeral services for Dr. A.S. Abshire, Church street, 88 year old physician, will be held at 3:30 pm today at the Rose Funeral Home.
The Rev. A.H. Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
Born April 24, 1860, near Rocky Mount, Virginia, Dr. Abshire was graduated in 1891 from the University of Maryland and came immediately to West Virginia to become associated with Dr. O.O. Cooper at Hinton and then located at Jumping Branch.
In 1895, he became a physician for the Beatty Lumber Company at Crow and in 1900 moved to Beckley to enter private practice.
He had been retired for about 10 years.
He is survived by one son, Basil Abshire of Beckley, a grandson and two nieces.
Pallbearers will be French Davis, T.M. Harris, T.L.Maynor and Harry May.
