Eagerly and anxiously had relative and friends watched and waited hoping the Mrs. Walter Peery might be restored to health and loved ones, but such was not to be. About 10 o'clock Tuesday night Oct., 4, 1922, she passed away after several weeks of almost indescribable suffering, borne without a murmer. Mrs. Peery has never been strong, but little did her relatives think the dreadful disease of kidney trouble and diabetes was sapping her life away. Her illness covered a period of about two months. She had had two bad sick spells within the past year, but appendix trouble was the believed to be the cause of her illness. Evelyn Freeland was born on the old home farm, in the Prairie View neighborhood, Feb 25, 1902. June 13, 1920 she was united in marriage to Walter Peery, giving up her school work at A. C. H. S. during her senior year to become his bride. Their brief two years of married life was on of beautiful companionship, and the sympathy friends and acquaintances feel for the grief stricken young husband cannot be expressed in words. Evelyn, the baby of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Freeland came as a ray of sunshine and her departure has left a void which never can be filled. Her mission of twenty short years is ended but the memory of her unselfish love and devbotion to those near and dear to he will never be forgotten. Mr. and Mrs. Peery conducted a store in Huron one year and while there she acquired many new friends, who have inquired daily in regard to her condition, always hoping for words of encouragement . . . Mrs. Peery is survived by her husband, parents, the following brothers and sisters: Rolly and Frank Freeland, Mrs. Mamie White, Mrs. Alice Hoffman, Effingham; Dr. Ed Freeland, Coffeyville. Dr. Freeland has been with his sister since being called home three weeks ago.
A sister Mrs Lizzie Cooper passed away in October 1913, and her brother Charles, in August 1913, at the age of 16. Funeral services for Mrs. Peery were held at the Effingham Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock, Thursday afternoon.
