Mom graduated from LDS High School, in the last class prior to the closing of that school. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Utah. Glenn and Helen began their married life in Circleville, Ut. where Glenn taught music in the local high school. They moved the next year to Rexburg, ID where Glenn continued to teach music at the high school. They moved two years later to Salt Lake City. During World War II while Glenn served in the Army, the family lived in Milton-Freewater, OR. After the war they returned to Salt Lake City where they made their home.
