John Muir
Donated by Muir & Hanna Family Trust
His obit was written by his son John. I have partially written it here.
Daniel Muir died Oct 6, 1885, in Kansas City, Missouri; at the residence of his daughter Joanne Hanna, in his 82nd year of his age.
His mother was English, his father Scotch, and he was born in Manchester, England in the year 1804. When he was 6 days old, his mother died and he lost his father shortly after. An elder sister became mother to him and brought him up on a farm in Lanarkshire, Scotland.
He as a young man served in the British Army. He was only there for a few years and purchased his discharge. On leaving the British Army he married and began a business as a merchant in Dunbar Scotland. Here two of his eight children were born, except the last one being born in Wisconsin. At the age of 45, he came to America.
About eight years ago he fell and broke his leg, and from the effects, it never healed. He died surrounded by all of his children.
