Many relatives and a hoist of friends from near and far attended the funeral services held at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Gladbrook on Monday for Ray C, Allard, 50, died by electrocution in Schryver's café on Thursday evening, August 1, 1940. The Rev. J. W. Williams, pastor of the Park Hill church of which, Mr. Allard was a member, was in charge of the service. Music was furnished by Mr. Crowfoot of Cedar Falls who sang three solos accompanied by Mrs. Marian Bruene of Gladbrook. Casket bearers were A. N. Stauffer, K. P. Wieland, Alvin Hoppe, J. Stuart Bauch, William Murray and Carl Eilers. Nathan Hicks of Marshalltown had charge of the Masonic ceremony at the grave in Crystal cemetery.
He was born November 3, 1889 on a farm south of Gladbrook, the son of Greenleaf P. and Melissa Taylor Allard, early settlers of Spring Creek township. His entire life was spent in and around Gladbrook. He attended the rural school and Gladbrook high school, after which he worked for a time in the creamery, then for the Iowa Light and Power company for five years. He then took up farming which he followed for seven years, returning to Gladbrook in 1927 to resume work for the power company, which he followed for the remainder of his life. He also worked for the telephone company for a number of years in connection with the light company service.
On October 30, 1915 he married Miss Mabel Alpen and they were parents of three children, Mrs. Harold Beddow, Helen and Dan Allard, the two younger being at home. He was member of the Masonic order at Gladbrook, having been worshipful master at one time. His faithful and efficient service and affable manner made him very popular in business and social circles. He had sincere religious convictions, and Sundays usually found him present in church services.
Mr. Allard is survived by his widow, three children, two brothers, Orien J. and Wallace H., of Cedar Falls, and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Engel, Mrs. G. Ear Stauffer and Mrs. Arthur Wiese, all of Gladbrook. Relatives and close friends from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. G. A.
