Harvey Cumberland Murphey, son of Joseph and Rachel V. Murphey, was born in Union township, Morgan county, Ohio, June 13, 1859 and departed this life at his home in Chesterhill, Ohio, September 29, 1925, aged 66 years, 3 months and 16 days.

He was united in marriage to Julia H. Hopkins, September 21, 1882. To this union were born three children, one son and two daughters, one daughter, an infant, having preceded him to the Great Beyond. The son, Charles of Zanesville, and the daughter, Hetty Kennard of Columbus, together with the wife, survive. He also leaves one brother, John E. Murphey of Sharpsburg, Ohio; three sisters, Emma J. Richardson of McConnelsville, Florence M. Smith of Ringgold and Carrie L. Smith of Chesterhill, and three grandchildren, besides a host of friends. His father, mother, one brother, Wellington C., and one sister, Meleta, have gone on before.

He was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Fairview in his youth, and at the time of his death he was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Pleasant Hill, being steward, trustee and also class leader of that church at the time of his passing. His early life was spent in Union township, at or near the place of his birth. Thirty-one years ago he moved to a farm in Marion township, where he lived for thirty years. Because of his failing health he sold this farm, moving to Chesterhill in May, 1924, where he was living at the time of his demise.
