A life cut short. A young man, leaving a widow and children that dearly loved their father. He was the father of 6 boys, and 1 daughter. Bud Barker had business interest all over the State Of Texas. It was on one of these business trips to check the ranches that he either was injuried or became sick and died. No record was left as to why he passed away so young and away from his home at Rankin, Ellis Co., TX. But, he was close to Brazos County Texas where he was reared on his fathers land. So Sad, William's youngest son was 6 months old, the oldest 15 years old..
His wife, Missouri Jack (SWAIN) Barker and William Wallace "Bud" Barker married 21 May 1867 Houston, Harris Co., TX. The first of their children were born in Millican, Brazos Co., TX. And some in Rankin, Ellis Co., TX.
When Bud died, the only child that was not required to have a court appointed guardian was his first born, James Addison Barker. The holdings in William W. Barkers estate was large and took years to come to settlement. Bud's grandfather William M. Millican came to Texas when it was the Republic Of Texas abt 1821. William Millican came with his father and they were in Stephen F. Austin's first settlement (first 100) in 1821. They were called "The Stephen F. Austin Colony, which were the first 300 families to settle along the Brazos River & Navasoto Rivers.
I can not connect Buds 3rd son because he is buried in the Texas State Cemetery. And they have no links on findagrave. So, I will list him in his fathers Bio. ROBERT "BOB" BARKER, son of Wm & Missouri. He was born 8 Sept 1873 Died 3 Jan 1945, Burial the 4 Feb 1945. Burial Texas State Cemetery. For his service of 25 years in the Texas Senate. Nine sessions he had been Secretary Of The Senate. His funeral was held in the Senate Chambers of The Texas State Capitol. Buried beside Bob Barker is his wife Nora (JONES) Barker. She was born 1883 and Died 25 Aug 1946.
William Wallace "Bud" Barker paid taxes in Lamar Co TX 1842 on 640 acres. In Montgomery Co., TX, Grimes Co, TX, Brazos Co., TX, Ellis Co., TX, Hopkins Co., TX Navasota Co.,Ellis Co., TX and a couple of others. All of the counties were listed in his probate. To get by in the probate process, Bud's widow, Missouri Jack (SWAIN) Barker borrowed from her father John B. Swain to get by with all of the children. They had great wealth; but, little in disposable income.
One other child is not listed in Bud's obit and that is his and Missouir's second born son, Augustus H. "Gus" Barker - Born 1872 Died 15 Nov 1912 Dallas Co., TX Unknown burial location. More on Gus in his mother, Missouri Jack (Swain) Barker's bio. She is buried at Bardwell, Ellis Co., TX in Elm Branch Cemetery.
The size of his Estate was huge and took years to settle. All the while his wife and children struggled...
