Clair Warren Estep was born in Indiana on October 9, 1904 to Josephine L Fulton and Charles Estep. He had two older siblings, Harry and Bertha Estep. The family lived in Wayne County, Indiana where Charles worked odd jobs and later farm work. Clair married Catherine E Jarrett in 1929 at age 24. He moved to Lynn, Indiana and worked as a truck driver, and his son Virgil was born in 1931. By 1955 they were living in Richmond, Indiana, and in 1960 he worked as a janitor. Clair died on December 2, 1964 at age 60.
