Evelyn Irene Williams, 76, of rural Birmingham, Iowa departed this life at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua, Iowa.
She was born October 1, 1932 in rural Louisa County, Iowa to Frank and Eunice Metzger Aringdale. She graduated from
Columbus Junction High School in 1949.
She married Rex L. Williams on October 13, 1956 in rural Columbus Junction. Evelyn worked four years as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Burlington, Iowa; was office manager for Van Buren County Conservation Board in Keosauqua and Bentonsport, Iowa for twenty-one years; and was a devoted wife, mother and farm homemaker, assisting her husband with their farm operation. She was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church and a charter member of Rebekah Circle, and the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are her husband, Rex; three sons, Gayle Williams (Julie) of McPherson, Kansas, Kent Williams (Linda) of Birmingham, Iowa, and Myron Williams of Wayland,
Iowa; three granddaughters; two grandsons; a brother, Robert Aringdale (Mary) of Burlington, Iowa; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Arlene Reighard and Doris Aringdale.
Funeral services were held at 10
:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009 in
Birmingham United Methodist Church with Pastor
Larry Smith officiating. Burial was in
Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Iowa.
