Mr. Major Burd, an old and well known citizen, died this morning at his residence in the upper part of town. Mr. Burd has lived here a number of years, and has always been a true and consistent friend, and honest citizen, and a good neighbor. He was for a number of years a constable in the county, and he has always been considered a good man. About a week ago, while working at Barmore's shipyard, at Jeffersonville, a crow bar which he was handling slipped and struck him across the bowels, occasioning a break in the entrails, which caused his death. As will be seen by the funeral notice elsewhere, he will be buried at 3 o'clock tomorrow. - New Albany Daily Ledger Standard 20 Sep 1876
