Petersburg - Thomas Vincent Schall, Sr., age 78, died at the University of Michigan Hospital on August 6, 2012.

Born November 26, 1933, the seventh child of Joseph and Phoebe Schall. Tom served as a paratrooper in the United States Army before working as a carpenter at Chrysler. On September 7, 1957, Tom married Roberta Hamilton in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Together, they became the parents of Annette (Bruce) Remer, Thomas, Jr. (Heidi), Hope Gillespie, and Joseph (Liane) and the grandparents of Robert and Michael Remer, Cory and Brooke Schall, Megan Gillespie, and Eli Pooley.

In 1960, Tom opened a Texaco service station in Rockwood, which he owned and operated until he joined the Flat Rock Police Department in 1968. Tom proudly served as a patrolman, sergeant and lieutenant before retiring in 1992. During his retirement, Tom enjoyed restoring military vehicles and driving them in holiday parades. A man of many talents, he would often frequent local auctions and flea markets searching for his next project.Tom was also an avid gardener and was quick to share his harvest with family and friends.

Tom's love for his family, faith and friends was an integral part of his life. His strong spirit lives on with his wife, children grandchildren, brothers, Richard and Ralph; sisters Eunice and Rosalie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by brothers Donald and Earl.

The family invites those who wish to pay their respects to the viewing at Arthur Bobcean Funeral Home in Flat Rock, Michigan on Wednesday, August 8th from 5:00 to 8:00pm and Thursday, August 9th from 12:00am to 8:00pm. The funeral will be held on Friday, August 10th at St. Joseph's Church, 8295 Van Aiken, Ida, Michigan, where he will lie in state from 10am to 11am with services at 11am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, in Ida, Michigan.

Memorials may be made to Monroe County Cancer Connection, Paralyzed American Veterans or St.Joseph;s Catholic Church of Ida.
