Thomas D. Wilson was born in Preble Co., Ohion on the 10 January 1836, the son of Daniel and Catherine Rock Wilson. The father was a veteran of the War of 1812, while his grandfather, Rock, was in the Revolution. Daniel Wilson passed away in 1845 and three years later, the wife and family moved to Louisa Co., Ia.

On the 12 November 1857, Mr. Wilson was united in marriage to Susanna M. Raushenberger, who was born in Ohio, on the 1 July 1839. She was the daughter of John and Mary (Messer) Raushenberger, the father a native of Pennsylvania and the mother of Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson had five chilleren: James Franklin, Edna; Mary Catherine, m. W. D. Nelson; William H. and Riley M. (Mrs. Nelson left the following children at her death: Bessie May; James Lale; and Mame Etta, m. William P. Hunt.) Mrs. Wilson died 13 Oct 1905 an is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery, at Morning Sun. Mr. Wilson was still living in 1912.
