Fay was the third of four daughters born to Orson A. and Rozella Stone Layton. During her happy childhood, Fay enjoyed riding the barrel by running on top of it to make it go where she wanted. she also enjoyed high jumping rope. She graduated from LDS Seminary and Downey High School in 1947. Fay married LaVar Byington in 1947 and started working as a bookkeeper at the Marsh Valley Hospital, where she worked for the next 16 years. She and LaVar had a daughter, TeAuna, born in 1958. In 1966, a premature baby boy, Lon E. was born weighing 3lbs 5oz. He lived only three hours. In 1966, she and LaVar divorced, and she moved to Portland, OY. She began working at the Oregon City Eye Clinic, where she was employed for the next two years. She then began working at the ICN Medical Lab as an assistant supervisor on the night shift until they closed their doors in January 1980. She also worked for a Dermatologist. Fay and TeAuna returned to Downey, where Fay helped care for her ailing mother. On April 20, 1983, Fay married Bishop Willis Barfuss. She helped him on the farm and was manager of Layton Farms and did all the bookkeeping until the time of her death. Fay and Willis were called as temple workers and worked together in Logan LDS Temple for 24 years until 2000. Fay continued to work at the temple for four more years. In 2004, Fay underwent a serious Whipple Surgery and fought bravely to recover from the surgery and complications. Sadly, she was not able to return to being temple worker. Survived by daughter TeAuna (Tom) Newton, grandsons Ty and Austin and sister LuAnn (David) McClure. Funeral services held Thursday August 9th at the Downey LDS 1st Ward Chapel; Bishop Rex Nielsen officiated.
