Marriages - - - Last Tuesday, at Raywick, Mr. Thomas Arthur Whitfield, was united in marriage to Miss Mary Edith Dant. The groom is a son of Mr. Joseph Whitfield, and his bride is the daughter of Mr. J. Rowan Dant, of Chicago. The young couple have a host of friends who wish them many years and much happiness and prosperity.

The wedding of Mrs. Edith Whitfield and Mr. J. Mort Spalding, both prominent residents of the county, was quietly solemnized Saturday evening at St. Joseph's Church by the pastor, the Rev. Albert Ruetz of St. Mary's College, in the presence of the immediate families.
Mrs. Spalding is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Rowland (sic) Dant.

Mrs. Mary Edith Spalding, 75, wife of J. Mort Spalding, Raywick, died at 11;50 a.m. Tuesday at Mary Immaculate Hospital where she had been under treatment since suffering a stroke 19 weeks ago. She had been ill since suffering a first stroke in 1952.
Mrs. Spalding was born and reared at Raywick, a daughter of the late Rowan and Sally J. Dant, and was a lifelong resident of that community.
Surviving, besides her husband, are two step-daughters, Mrs. Frank Sosienski, Louisville, and Mrs. Dorothy Popplewell, Winchester, and two step-sons, James Hamilton Spalding, Raywick, and Gabriel Cooper Spalding, Louisville; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson and Mrs. Pearl Alvey, Louisville and Mrs. Charlie Cambron, Lebanon; a brother, Walter Dant, Loretto, and several nieces and nephews.
The body was at Bosley Funeral Home until 9 a.m. yesterday when funeral services were conducted by the Rev. D. W. Rummage at St. Francis Xavier Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gabriel, Hamilton, Hugh C., Marion, Charles and Lawrence Spalding.
