Gertrude A. Andros, 91, Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, died peacefully Monday at the home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Horrell, daughter of the late Charles and Sarah (Brubaker) Kuhn. She was twice married, first to Russell Lang, then to James H. Andros Sr., both of whom preceded her in death.
Surviving are four sons: Jim Lang (Mary) of Fallentimber, James H. Andros Jr. (Maureen) of Altoona, Thomas Andros (Joanne) of Duncannon and Terry Andros (Milly) of Melbourne, Fla.; three daughters: Sally Savaikus of Morrisville, Carol Smith (Chester) of Altoona and Linda Crookshank of Greenwood; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Williard, Charles "Rocky," Irvin and Calvin Kuhn; and three sisters: Betty Heidler, Lavern Kuhn and Lavada Lewis.
Gert and her husband, Jim Andros, were owners of the Olympia Tavern in Juniata. She enjoyed going to Florida for many years, along with playing bingo, flower arrangements and doing ceramics. She loved cooking for her family and friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Evelyn Madison. Interment will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Garvey Manor Nursing Home or a favorite charity.
