David's father was Preston Clemons/Clements and his mother was Lucy Pinkerton Clements (U.S. International Marriage Records, 1560-1900) Preston & Lucy are recorded in the 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860 & 1870 census as living in Buncombe Co. The Big Creek, Cocke Co. TN 1880 shows Preston living with his son Andrew's family. In this census Preston was 77 yrs old. It is not know when or where Lucy died.
Enlisted as a Private in McDowell Co., NC on September 11, 1861 at the age of 22. Enlisted in Company B, 35 Infantry Regiment North Carolina on October 5, 1861.
Killed December 13, 1862 in Fredericksburg, VA.
