SOUTH BURLINGTON / ENOSBURG FALLS – Agnes L. Rushford, age 79, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington.

She was born June 26, 1933 in Enosburg Falls the daughter of the late Raymond & Nettie (Bryce) Rushford.

She was a 1951 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School and began her career working for George T. Costes and then Union Carbide in St. Albans. At the end of the Korean War she moved to Burlington to work at New England Telephone Company and stayed with the phone company during its many changes of being NYNEX, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon which is now Fairpoint. She retired in 1995 after over forty years of service. While working with Verizon she took courses at Champlain College and Marlboro Learning Center in Marlboro, MA. While working for the phone company she spent many years working on the company sponsored Junior Achievement of America Program with her friend Pat Kennedy. She was also an active member of the Pioneers of America and the Vermont Life Member Club which she served on the Nominating Committee and Executive Committee. She also worked many years at Grand Union/Grand Way.

Since her retirement she served as President of the Twin Oaks Condominium Association in South Burlington and served as President of her cluster 6. She was a member of the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church and attended Faith Methodist Church in South Burlington, where she served as trustee for one term.

She was enthusiastic about the Art and Science of politics. She enjoyed skiing, playing softball and bowling and was an avid sports fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Duke University basketball.

She is survived by a brother, Richard Rushford of Enosburg Falls; a sister, Bernice Aber and husband Marvin of Montpelier; 2 nieces, Jamie Rushford of Enosburg Falls, and Judy Aber of Burlington; 1 nephew, Jeffrey Aber of Florida; her extended family, Susan Demetrules and husband James of Florida & Franklin and Jims children, Denise Huntsman her husband Dean and their girls, Malinda & Haylie, and Christopher Demetrules his wife Lynn and Lynn's children, Curtis & Ashley Denton. Agnes was always there for everyone and will be greatly missed by all her friends.

Agnes's family wishes to thank all of her doctors and caregivers and the staff at Home Instead for the care provided over the last year.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Sheldon Village Cemetery, Sheldon Woods Road, Sheldon with Rev. Jon Bly officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
