One day while traveling on one of these roads through the hills, Brownloe lost control of his horse and his rig and horse left the road to disappear over a cliff. Brownloe jumped clear and was unhurt. Some residents were in the area and they rushed to his aid. After finding him all right, their next concern was of his horse somewhere at the bottom of the cliff. They were concerned but Brownloe was not. He said it would be fine, nothing could happen to his horse. Sure enough, when the people made their way down the hill, through all the brush and trees, Topsey was still alive and hardly scratched. His buggy was smashed to pieces, but his horse was fine.
