Belle was the oldest child of Ole H. and Gurie (Knutsdattir/Knutson) Ruud. She and her sister, Birgitta, were born in Norway, and moved with their parents to the America when Belle was about three-years-old. The rest of their siblings were born in Wisconsin.
Belle married Nels Houston on July 4, 1888 in Martell, Wisconsin. They had eight children. The family lived in Wisconsin, then moved to the Timothy Township/Swanburg area of Minnesota. Nels died in 1917.
On November 23, 1922, Belle married Claude Mitchell in Crow Wing Co, Minnesota.
Belle died at the age of 65 in Timothy Twp, Minnesota.
