His family was from Iola,KS and he enlisted at Iola KS on 7 Mar 1863 in the 9th KS Cavalry. He was killed in action a few months later at a battle near Westport, MO. I don't know his birth date or place, I estimated from his age in the photo taken at his enlistment, and from the location of his family at the time of his enlistment. Anyone who has the correct information on his birth is invited to email it to me. He was first buried on the family farm and may have later been moved to a National Cemetery for Civil War soldiers.
