CHAS. B. SCOTT, 81, DIES HERE MONDAY
Charles Benj. Scott, 81, died here Monday afternoon, January 12. He had been in gradually failing health for several months.
A native of this county he was born January 18, 1860 (sic), son of John W. and Sarah Godman Scott who were numbered among the early residents and members of families having much to do with the early development of the county.
Mr. Scott's father was a native of Kentucky and has mother was born in Marion county.
He was united in marriage to Miss Alice Bowles in 1882. She died December 9, 1932.
Until advanced age compelled retirement Mr. Scott was engaged in farming in Fabius and Union townships for many years. He spent a few years of his life in Arkansas.
Possessing a friendly and jovial disposition, he had many friends and was held in highest esteem by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at Bethel Baptist church conducted by Rev. C. E. Griswold, pastor of Palmyra Baptist church. Interment was made in Emerson cemetery. He was a member of the Emerson Baptist church.
He is survived by one brother, Edward Scott of LaGrange and a sister, Mrs. Robert L. McLeod of Independence.
