In 1900 John, 30, and wife Eugenia V, 29, are living in Dade County, Missouri with their four children.

In the 1910 Delaware County, Oklahoma Census John S,a farmer, age 40, and his wife Eugenia V, 39, have been married 19 years and have nine children as follows: Daniel R, 18; William P, 16; Jerry T, 13; Lillie M, 11; James C, 9; Golden, 7; Jewell, 5; Marie, 3; and Ethel, 1. Baby Ethel was born in Oklahoma, the rest of the children in Missouri.

In 1920 the family have moved to Pacific County, Washington. John is working at a lumber mill. Their children are: James, 18; (Lillie) Mabel, 21; Daniel, 27; Jewell, 15; Marie, 12; Maggie, 9; Gertie, 6; Johnnie, 8; grandson Roy Richey, 6. They also have two boarders.

After the death of Eugenia in 1934, John married Rebecca Ruth Baker Richey March 30, 1935, Greenfield, Dade County, MO. Ruth is a widow of his brother Marion C, and daughter of Samuel M and Elisabeth Long Baker. Rebecca Ruth Baker married Marion C Richey April 12, 1896, Bona, Dade County, MO. She died at age 80, October 13, 1954, Vancouver, Washington. Rebecca is buried with Marion at Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, MO.
