Angelo R. D'Agostino, former Mayor of Meriden and loving husband of Susan D'Agostino, died suddenly on Saturday, August 04, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 16, 1943, he was the son of the late Angelo and Mary D'Agostino. He was a graduate of Southington High School and attended Laurel Business College.
Besides being a former Mayor of Meriden, Angelo was the Director of Sales for Sclafani Corp., Director of Sales for Diamond Ice Distributors, former member of the Board of Directors for the Meriden Boys & Girls Club, Meriden City Council, Meriden Deputy Majority Leader, Chairman of the Park & Recreation, Meriden Elks BPOE Local 457, Sales Supervisor for Prince Macaroni and Director of Sales at Johnson Wax. Angelo was also highly involved in youth activities such as coaching and was a board member for South Meriden Little League and Babe Ruth and Meriden Junior Football.
He received many awards and accolades including "Hall of Fame" from CT Food Association in 2009, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congress in 2007, and many awards from Johnson Wax.
Angelo was a presence in every room he walked into and brought a smile to everyone who had the privilege to know him. Everyone who knew him, loved him. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed and adored his granddaughters, taking great pleasure in all their activities. He passed on much of his great wisdom during his many "talks" with them, which will be greatly missed.
He leaves a loving wife, Susan, of 49 years, his loving family, son Michael D'Agostino of Cheshire, son and daughter-in- law, Robert and Brenda D'Agostino of Plantsville, two granddaughters Brittney and Alyssa D'Agostino who loved their "Papa" beyond words, his sister and brother-in-law Barbara (D'Agostino) and Steve Kerelejza, two nephews Chad and Ryan Boudreau and their spouses. He was pre-deceased by a brother Robert D'Agostino.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Church, 585 Main St, So. Meriden. Everyone is asked to gather at the church. Burial will be private. Family and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden on Tuesday, August 7th from 4 to 8p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Meriden Boys & Girls Club or the Davidson Scholarship, c/o Susan D'Agostino, 32 Tulip Tree Circle, Prospect CT. 06712
