Abraham Arendt of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away December 7, 1988.
He was born February 2, 1896 in Tiegerweide, Russia.
He married Elizabeth Reimer in 1921 after serving in World War I. They had five children, two of whom died in infancy and one at age four.
He acccepted Christ at age 16 and was baptized at age 27 by John Bartel and accepted into the MB Church of Schoensee, Russia.
Elizabeth passed away and he married Katharina Fast in 1929. They had nine children, three of whom died in infancy.
In 1943 the family fled to Poland. In 1946 they fled to Holland in order to avoid being returned to Stalinist Russia.
December 18, 1948 the family immigrated to Canada and settled in Yarrow, B.C. After a year, the family bought a small berry farm where they made their living until they retired to Chilliwack in 1967.
Abraham Arendt is survived by his wife Katherina; daughters Elizabeth Loewen of Bellingham, Washington; Katherine Wiens of Richmond, B.C.; Hilda of Chilliwack; Helen Dyck of Richmond; Mary Booker of Victoria and Agnes Moore of Chilliwack; son John of Langley, B.C.; 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was December 12, 1988 at Broadway Mennonite Brethren Church, Chilliwack with Robert Friesen ministering. Interment was at Greendale Cemetery, Sardis BC.
