Jesse Barton, 90, of 311 N. William St. died suddenly at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at the home of his son in Three Rivers where he had lived since February of 1976.
He was born Aug. 7, 1887 in Eden Township, married Mary Inez Bedker on Oct. 3, 1912 in Eden Township and she died Aug. 29, 1973.
He lived in Mason County most of his life until 1976 when he moved to Three Rivers. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ludington, a former choir member, former World Mission treasurer for many years, and also worked as custodian at the church for a period of time.
The couple had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October of 1972.
He had worked as wire chief for General Telephone Company for 42 years, retiring in 1951.
Surving are two sons, Harold J. of Three Rivers and Earl J. of Muskegon; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Claude (Tillie) Rathbun of Ludington; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife, by his parents, Isaac and Eliza Barton; several brothers and sisters.
The funeral for Mr. Barton will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home, Ludington with the Rev. William J. Torrey officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
