Francis E. "Sonny" Flood, 77, of Janesville, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly.
Sonny was born December 28, 1934, the son of Francis and Mary (Oleson) Flood in Savage, Minnesota. He completed his schooling at Waverly-Shell Rock High School. He entered the United States Marine Corps on July 31, 1953 and was honorably discharged on July 30, 1956. Upon returning to the area he worked for Drape Construction in Waverly. In January of 1959, he began working at Carnation (Nestle) in Waverly. On September 15, 1959, he was united in marriage to Valeria "Rita" (Stocks) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Sonny continued to work at Nestle for a total of 35 years, retiring in 1994.
Sonny enjoyed fishing, especially when traveling and camping in Minnesota. He also enjoyed watching sports and collecting John Deere memorabilia. Attending auctions was one of his favorite things to do; he was known to never come home empty handed.
He is survived by his wife, Rita, of Janesville, two sons; Jim (Brooke) Flood of Evansdale, and David (Danise) Flood of Janesville, four grandchildren; Jessica Novak, Deanna Flood, Danni Harmon, and Jordan Carey, one sister; Dona Franzen of Shell Rock.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter; Terri Jo in 1963, one sister; Carol Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2012, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Janesville with burial to follow in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly, with military honors conducted by the Waverly Veterans Group. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and for an hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
