Alva B. Crandall was born at Williamsburg, New York, January 16, 1849, and died at the Cedar Valley Hospital at Charles City, Iowa, April 13, 1923
He came west when twenty years old and settled in Chickasaw County, Iowa, near the town of Nashua. Here he met and married Mary Sutton.
Mr. and Mrs. Crandall were the parents of eight children; Mrs. Pearl Meadows, deceased; Mrs. Edith Bruinenger, New York City; George; William; and Frank Crandall, Charles City, Iowa; Edward Crandall, Oklahoma; and Fred and Orla Crandall, Waterloo, Iowa. Mrs. Crandall passed away twenty years ago.
Mr. Crandall was seized with pneumonia while visiting his son, who was a patient at the Cedar Valley Hospital and Passed away after a week's illness.
Mr. Crandall was the youngest of twelve children, six girls and six boys, and the last to survive.
All the children were present at the funeral, which was held Sunday at 2:00 O'clock at Linderman's Chapel, Charles City, and the remains were laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.
