Benjamin was Born to Howard Erickson Rice (b1869 in Kansas) and Mary "May" Marillia (Woods) Rice (b1876).

Benjamin was born in Basalt, Eagle/Pitman County, Colorado.

Benjamin served in the Army as a Corporal for Company "L" 158th infantry in WW1. He enlisted at Cedar Hill Minnesota. From there he was sent to Brooklyn, NY. He departed NY from Port Dennison on Aug.11, 1918 for France.

The 1st Arizona Infantry was drafted into federal service 5 August 1917, and re-designated as the 158th Infantry Regiment as part of the 79th Brigade, of the 40th Division. The division was sent overseas to France in August 1918. The regiment saw no active service at the front, however its men furnished replacement personnel to other units. The regiment also acted as the guard of honor to President Woodrow Wilson during his visit in France in 1918. And the regimental band marched and performed in the Allied Victory Parade which he attended. The regiment arrived at the port of New York on the USS Ohioan, was relieved from assignment to th 40th Division on 20 April 1919, and was demobilized on 3 May 1919 at Camp Kearny, California.

Benjamin's first wife was Marjorie Alyce (Lewis)Rice. (born 1898 in NM.She was the daughter of Frank E. Lewis & Rose R. Lewis).
They married on October 10, 1923 in Durango, Colorado.
In the 1930 Census he is living in Durango, CO with wife Marjory. He is listed as a manager of a grocery store. No children are listed.
Marjory died shortly after the 1930 census, leaving Benjamin a widow.

Second wife was Muriel L. (Hill) Rice. They were married May 4, 1940 in Ceresco, Nebraska. They were married until his death in Sept. 1963.

The 1950 Census shows Ben working for a retail plumbing company, and living on 1905 N62nd street in Lincoln, Nebraska with his wife Muriel and the 3 children.

Together Benjamin & Muriel raised her daughter Charlotte (from a previous marriage of Muriel). Charlotte was born in 1935.
In 1935 they were living in Kearney, Nebraska.
In 1940 in Sterling Co. then Denver, Colorado.
