Dennis Woodrow Wilson Wheeland was born to Dennis Edgar and Bessie Mae (Myers) Wheeland. He lived in Nebraska for most of his childhood until he, his two sisters and his parents moved to Columbus, Ohio.

He enlisted in the National Guard and then the US Army. He met Virginia Mae Hayes shortly before going off to New Guinea to do his part in World War II. While there he attained the rank of 1st Sergeant. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, two Bronze Stars and the American Defense Medal while serving his country.

He and Virginia were married on Aug. 31st, 1944. They had four children, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He enjoyed fishing and any lake would do. Canada was preferred but he took what he could get. He raced a stock car when he was young and enjoyed watching NASCAR later in life.

I am one of the 10 grandchildren. My grandfather was one of the lucky people that get to live many lives during their time. He was loving husband, father, grandfather friend and so many other things to so many people. We were all very blessed to have him in our lives and we will never forget him.
