Funeral services for John J. Titch, 79, of Gainesville, were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Hillcrest Church of Christ with ministers, Ben Willingham and David Gray officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Clement Keel Funeral Home in Gainesville. He died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at his home.

He was born October 7, 1927 in Callisburg, Texas to Jim and Alma (Blankenship) Titch. He graduated from Gainesville High School in 1945. On October 12, 1948, he married Billie Joyce McCormick, and they raised two children in Gainesville.

He began his career in the oil field as a driller, and later worked as a contract pumper for T & O Drilling Company and Kimbell Oil Company. In 1967, he was employed by TXU where he retired in August 1987, after 20 years of service. He was a charter member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ and served on the Building Committee during the time of construction and later as a deacon.

After retiring, he and his wife moved to John's home place in Callisburg where they attended church at the Callisburg Church of Christ. He was an active volunteer in restoration work in Callisburg Cemetery, Liberty Hill Cemetery and Henderson Cemetery. He enjoyed his antique tractors and attending the farm machinery show each year in Lindsay. He was awarded a lifetime membership in the Antique Tractor Club.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Titch of Gainesville; daughter, Belinda and husband, Mickey LaRue; son, Frank and wife, Joanie; granddaughters, Michelle Gregory and husband, Mike, Amber Wilson and husband, Mark, Sara Sweet and husband, Tom, Katie Titch, Leah Titch; grandson, Daniel Titch; great-grandchildren, Cody Gregory and Emily Sweet; and dear friends, Steve, Debra and Beth Soukup.
