Reverend James F. ‘Jim' Bishop, age 81, of Chatsworth a minister of God's Holy Word for 52 years, went to be with his Savior on Sunday, July 29, 2012. Family surrounded him when God sent his angels to carry him home.

He was born on March 9, 1931 in Gordon County. James married Effie Ballew Bishop on February 21, 1947. They were married 65 years and had seven children.

He went to join his Savior & his oldest son, James Floyd Bishop, and to wait patiently on their loved ones that survive: his wife and best friend, Effie Bishop, and his three sons and daughters-in-law, Thurman & Jean, Gerald & Cindy, and Rodney & Gina. His three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Kilgore, Connie & David Cavender, and Renee Calhoun all wait to join him as well.

James had seventeen grandchildren: Holly Long, Tony Bishop, Simon Bishop, Gabriel Bishop, Crystal Deal, Virginia Goodrich, Paula Parkhill, Rebecca Kilgore, Samson Kilgore, Stephanie Warren, Cody Smith, Adam Hooker, Daniel Hooker, Jessica Grafton, Nathaniel Bishop, Kristen Bishop, and Dustin Patterson - all of whom he loved and was very proud to have call him Papaw.

He is also survived by his twenty great-grandchildren: Tyler & Avery Bishop, Kayla Farmer, Savannah Howard, Abram Bishop, Levi & Shauna Bishop, Tristan Deal, Connor & Blake Goodwich, Hudson & Jaxson Parkhill, Thade Kilgore, Kane & Kaleb Cagle, Katlyn Warren, Landon, Kaden, and Xander & Adalee Hooker.

He was the eldest of 13 siblings. His mother, Annie Bell Gallman; father, John Lee Bishop; sister, Ora Mae Greeson; half-sister, Juanita Austin; and half-brothers, Gordon, Johnny and Donald Bishop, all preceded him in death. His father and mother law, whom he loved very much, Claude & Stella Ballew, also preceded him to heaven. His brother, Glen Bishop; sister, ImaLee Caylor; half-sister, Georgia Gallman; and half-brothers, Henry Gallman, Jr., Charles Gallman, and Ray Bishop, all survive him.

James was an active member of Shining Light Baptist Church, until his health began to fail him and he was no longer able to attend church, as he always loved to do. He loved his church family and God very much.

The family will celebrate his going home to be with God on Tuesday, July 31 at 4:00 PM at Shining Light Baptist Church with the Reverend Tim Steelman & the Reverend Tony Bishop officiating.

Interment will follow in the Holly Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, July 30 starting at 4:00 PM until the services Tuesday, July 31.
