World War II veteran, salesman

Ernest B. Hanks, 79, of Willows died July 22, 2001, at Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
Born Jan. 5, 1922 in Willows, he was the son of Ernest and Gladys Hanks. He served in the US Navy during World War II on the US Sumnter during seven operations in the Pacific Theater. He was a salesman for many years for Barceloux Auto Supply. He was a member of VFW and Oddfellows. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of his roses.
Survivors include his wife Evangelina Hanks of Willows; one son Dave Hanks of Porterville; four stepsons, Fernando Gallegos of Port Orchard, Wash., Albert Gallegos of San Jose, Arthur of Willows and Carlos of Red Bluff, one daughter, Phyllis April Hanks of Hillsboro, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Tina Pahler of Sunnyvale; one sister, Hilda Boquier of Grass Valley and numerous grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Hanks in 1985 and by a son Ernest B. Hanks in 1967.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association in care of the mortuary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Monica's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Willows Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of F. D. Sweet & Son of Willows. – Transcribed by E.
