NAMPA — Services for Fred Yoshimi Furuyama, 68, of 319 Eighteenth Avenue South, Nampa, who died Thursday in a Nampa hospital, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Alsip Chapel, by the Rev. Mas Kawashima, Community United Methodist Church, Ontario. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 12, 1908, in Fukushima, Japan, the eldest son of the family. He moved to the United States when he was 12, and attended school at Salem, Ore. He married Mitsuko Kumasaka, Oct. 29, 1933, in Salem.
He farmed with his parents in the Salem area until he moved to Los Angeles to work as a manager for the Wholesale Vegetable Market. In 1942 he moved to the Ontario area to farm. In 1954 he moved to Nampa to manage the Amalgamated Sugar Co. Farm. He operated Color-Tronic Photography until his retirement two years ago.
Mr. Furuyama was a member of the Japanese-American Citizens League and served on its board of directors; Nampa Lions Club; Auxiliary Police Force, the Professional Photographers of America, and the Civil Air Patrol.
Surviving are his wife, Nampa; a daughter, Mrs. Grace Rye, Monmouth, Ore.; a son, Dr. Eugene Furuyama, Boise; two brothers, Min, Hayward, Calif., and George, Nampa; five sisters, Mrs. Hisako Tsuda and Mrs. Shuko Hoshi, both Japan, Mrs. Sachiko Hasuike, Tigard, Ore., and Mrs. Yuki Okazaki and Mrs. Kiyo Okada, both of San Lorenzo, Calif., and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Fonda.
