Services were held in the Bethel Baptist Church Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Carsie Oliver of Monticello, member of a widely known Lawrence County family and life-long resident of the Monticello community, who died Friday morning in the King's Daughter Hospital in Brookhaven.
She had been carried to the hospital on February 9 following a stroke at her home in Monticello. She was fifty-one.
Rev. Clyde Wilson of Brookhaven, pastor of the Pentecostal Church in Brookhaven, the Rev. Spurgeon Gibbins, pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church and Rev. James King, pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church, had part in the services.
Pall bearers were Jerry Reid, Johnnie Miller, H. E. Reid, Hezzie Williamson, Mack Hedgepeth and Pete Griffith. Burial was in the Bethel Church Cemetery. The Hartman Company was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Oliver was Miss Annie Mae Miller, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. Hiram Miller of near Monticello before her marriage. She had been a member of the Bethel Baptist Church since childhood. She had been confined to her bed for almost two and one half years.
She leaves her husband, Carsie Oliver of Monticello; one son, Lavon Oliver of Chicago, Ill., a grand-daughter, Pamela Oliver of Chicago; five sisters, Mrs. C. A. Smith, Mrs. J. C. Reid, Monticello, Mrs. L. H. Mason, Mrs. Shelby Thornhill, Mrs. Dewey Moffett, Gulfport; and four brothers, L. H. Miller, A. J. Miller and Robert Miller all of Gulfport and Harold Miller.
