Mr. Torence Jesse Matson, Sr, 94, of Statesville, passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at the NC Veterans Home in Salisbury.
Mr. Matson was born April 27, 1919 in Pocahontas County, VA and was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Willie Brenda Correll Matson. He was a graduate of Pocahontas County schools and received his Associate's Degree in Business Management from Bluefield Technical College. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Matson was married to Sybil Carbaugh Matson, who preceded him in death on May 26, 1999.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Matson was also preceded in death by a son, Torence J. Matson, Jr. and one daughter, Margaret Matson Adams.
He is survived by one granddaughter, Margaret Holland Adams of Baltimore, MD and three grandsons, Matson and Brann Adams of Statesville and Wes Adams of Columbia, S.C. He is also survived by one great-grandson, James Adams of Charlotte.
Funeral services for Mr. Matson will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at New Salem UMC with Rev. David Gay officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery.
