Edith was the daughter of Stanislav ("Stanley") Basinski and Marianna "Mary Ann") Lehman. Basinski was sometimes anglicized to Basinsky.

She married Edward Thomas Hart, son of James Hart and Mary Payton, ca 1923, probably in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Edith's family had settled in Fayette County, and Edward's family had been long-time residents.

Edward's parents were both born in Ireland.

Edith's parents and their first child, son Tomasz ("Thomas"), were born in what is now Klecko, Gniezno County, Poland. When Edith's parents were born, Poland was controlled by Prussia; in 1871, Prussia became part of Germany. Poland again became an independent nation in 1918 with Germany's defeat in World War I. On census records, the parents and Thomas show their country of birth as Germany and their native tongue as Polish; however, Klecko was originally in Poland and today is in Poland.

Edith and Edward had four children, daughters Dolores, Gertrude, Rita, and Alice. Edith was only forty-two years old when her husband, Edward, died.

Edith Rita (Basinsky) Hart married Carl Ernst Henckels, son of Ernst Henckels and Matilda Kohl, on July 8, 1949, Henrico County, Virginia; they were married until his death. At the time of their marriage, the couple resided in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Soon they relocated to California where they made their home in Los Angeles County. Carl, who was born February 13, 1892, Solingen, Rheinland, Germany, died on December 2, 1952, in Lakewood Village, Los Angeles County.
