Anasue Shill Smith

WINAMAC - Anasue Shill Smith was born to Dr. John and Ethel (nee Ackerman) Shill on December 24, 1918. She spent her childhood in Winamac, IN with her two sisters, Jane and Sara Frances (Frankie) who have preceded Anasue in death. Anasue graduated from Winamac High School in 1936.

She attended the South Bend College of Commerce, later getting a job as a legal secretary and then as a secretary at Studebaker's. That's where she met the love of her life. Richard Smith and Anasue were married May 9, 1942 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in South Bend and raised their four children then in Osceola. Dick passed away in January, 1959. Anasue then became employed at Moran School as the secretary for the next 28 years, retiring in 1987. After 82 years of living in Indiana, she moved to Tucson, AZ for nine years. For the last year of Anasue's life, she was "back home again in Indiana".

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of calling prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Anasue is survived by her four children: Patricia Smith, of Tucson, AZ; Bruce Smith (Linda) of Oxnard, CA; Sara (Terry) Umbaugh of Auburn, IN; Christina (Glenn) Paul of Maryland Heights, MO. She is also survived by her six grandchildren: Jay (Angela) Umbaugh; Jill (Nick) Sloffer; Tessa (Mike) Brouwer; Billy Tilk; Lindsey Tilk and Steven (Zena) Tilk. Anasue also enjoyed her five great-grandchildren. Anasue has been loved by many nieces and nephews and friends.

During Anasue's life, she was an active member of her community, including Queen of Peace Rosary Society, Neighborhood Club, Osceola American Legion Auxiliary; Osceola Community Players and PHM bowling league. She enjoyed remembering family and friends' birthdays by sending cards. She was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
